Hurricane/Emergency
Preparedness |
|
What would you do if you had no electricity, no
gas, no water and no telephone service next month, next week or even
tomorrow? How would you and your family cope? In Florida, this
situation became a reality for many residents in the 2004 - 2005 hurricane
seasons, and it can become a reality again. In addition to hurricanes, other emergencies may provide no forewarning and can happen at
any time. This is why it is important to prepare now and not wait
until the last minute when stores are crowded and supplies quickly run out
leaving you without basic needs. Get prepared now and don't wait until
it's too late. Visit
FloridaDisaster.org to create your own personalized family preparedness plan.

2010 Flu Information |
 |
Each year, a seasonal flu vaccine is routinely
distributed to protect against the three flu viruses that are expected to be
most common that year. This year's flu vaccine will protect against the
influenza A H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus, and also the 2009 H1N1 virus.
Due to the wide availability of flu vaccine in
Indian River County, the health department is no longer offering flu shots to
the general public. If you are a patient of the health department, please call
the clinic for information on getting your flu shot. If you are not a
patient of the health department, please contact your health care provider, the
Visiting Nurse Association or your local pharmacy for information on getting a
flu shot. For more information about the season flu vaccine and who should be
vaccinated, visit our
Immunizations web page.
